Frequently And Commonly Asked Questions
And Supprt Files:

Why are your counters free?

To put it simply, they are free because included in the code for your counter is a small text advertisement for a company who is looking for more web visitors. They purchase an ad on each counter, which covers the cost of providing it to you, and allows us to give this valuable service away.

What if I want to move the ad or change the way it looks?

The only things that you can not do is remove the ad entirely, change or alter the wording of the ad, or change the destination of the link.

Common changes that you CAN make are:

  • move it around the page where your counter is (It must be on the same page as the counter)
  • change the color of the link
  • pretty much anything else you can think of.

Of course, if there is a question about whether or not it would be allowed, drop us a quick note to ask.

Can I remove the ad? What happens if I do?

No, the ad must stay on the same page as the counter for as long as you use our service; if it’s removed or altered, we will find out (We track these things, obviously, and eventually we will see it…) and your account will be disabled without any notification from us.

I want to start my counter at a number other than 1. How?

When you sign up for a counter, we ask you for the starting number to be displayed. And that’s what we ad to your account the first time that the counter is shown (On the final page of the sign up process). Pretty straight forward, but please note that once that number has been set, it is set in stone and CAN NOT be changed without starting all over again!

I want to change or reset the count on my existing counter. How?

You don’t. For security purposes, once the first number has been set for a page, it’s done and can only be changed by people actually visiting your page. Sorry!

Please note that we will not respond to contacts requesting
changes be made to the number shown on a counter!

Help: My counter's not working!

Since our counters are free, we do not offer support on them for the majority of problems.

That being said, there are actually only a few common reasons why this could be the case, and here’s a few of them:

Q.) There’s nothing but a bunch of funky looking text on my page where I want the counter to go.

A.) If you see any text other than the advertisement on your page after you tried to set up your counter, chances are very good that you pasted the code into the visible part of your page like it were text. Just delete it, and be sure to paste the code into the CODE part of you pages and you should be all set.

Q.) All I see are a box with a red X and your ad. What’s up?

A.) If you are seeing this, the good news is that you pasted the code into your page right and would have expected to see a counter. The bad news is that the code that you pasted got messed up somewhere along the line and is now corrupted. To fix it, go back to our home page and sign up for a new counter using the same details, and try again. 99% of the time, this fixes the problem.

Q.) All I see on my page is the ad, but not the counter or red x’s. Why?

A.) Since our counters are supported by advertisements, taking them off is basically stealing from us. Once someone has done that on a domain, we terminate their account, and send a graphic in the place of the counter (And Sometimes It's Invisible: But Not Always...) to all pages on their domain. This stays on there forever. And this is what’s happening 99% of the time when nothing is showing after pasting in the code.

If none of that helps you, let us know about the problem and we’ll try and give you a hand. Probably we won’t reply, but if you’re lucky, we may choose to reply if you ask nicely. (Here’s the secret to getting our attention: use the words 'white ipod nano' in your request, and then we’ll know you actually read this stuff first and will be more inclined to help…)

Also, pointing out problems, issues, and other items to us might help us make an improvement for the future!
